Podcast Guesting + Partnerships: The Only Marketing You Need
Episode description
Dustin breaks down the simplest marketing plan for coaches, consultants, and service providers to achieve six, multi-six, or seven figures—without feeling like a marketer. Drawing from his experience building multiple seven-figure businesses (including 7 Figure Leap, Fire Creek Snacks, and Engaged Marriage), Dustin reveals a two-part system that's worked for over 250 clients: strategic podcast guesting once per week and forming one deep marketing partnership per month. He explains why being good at what you do doesn't require being good at traditional marketing, how to select the right podcasts with the right stories and calls to action, and how to identify which podcast relationships should evolve into deeper partnerships like guest trainings, email swaps, summit speaking, and co-hosted webinars. Dustin shares real examples from his partnerships with Pat Flynn, Nathan Barry, Justin Welsh, and others, demonstrating how this relationship-based approach creates a sustainable, enjoyable business that generates consistent leads and sales while staying in your zone of genius

Dustin: [00:00:00] If you can podcast guest once a week and you can form a partnership once a month, you'll have all of the leads that you need to grow ultimately a seven figure business.
Intro: You are listening to the seven-Figure Leap podcast. We're here to leverage rich relationships and smart strategies to take your business to the next level. Here's your host, Dustin Reman.
Dustin: What is the simplest marketing plan to achieve a six, multi-six or even seven figure business for your coaching and consulting services? I'm Dustin Reman. Welcome back to Seven Figure Leap, and I'm really excited to. Boil down marketing into something that I believe and have experienced is the path towards a simple, sustainable and fun business that you actually [00:01:00] enjoy the marketing. one of the things I hear all the time. From people at conferences or writing in or over on LinkedIn is some form of I'm really good at what I do.
Dustin: I'm just not very good at marketing and I feel that like I, I come from an engineering background and I learned digital marketing and I've always been really good sort of as a technician or as an implementer. And I've always had a lot of passion about the work that I do. but I just never felt like.
Dustin: A quote unquote marketer, and I feel like even the word marketer sometimes carries, some baggage, right? The good news is you don't need to be a marketer. right. You need to do the thing that you do and let that become your marketing. And that's really our whole mission here at Seven Figure Leap. And that is the.
Dustin: Complete focus of, the work that we do and the offers that we have. If you didn't hear it yet, definitely make sure to check out the sort of sister episode, to this. I, I broke down the three [00:02:00] offers that you need in your business to keep it simple and to achieve seven figures. Your business. this episode is going to assume that you, have that sort of, offer stack at least in mind, and I want to guide you through a very simple marketing plan that will allow you to attract your ideal clients to sell those offers and to achieve your goals.
Dustin: This is gonna sound really simple, but it is literally. Two pieces, there's two steps, to this marketing plan. It's the marketing plan that I used, to grow
seven figure leap, to seven figures in three years, and, sustain that as well as a previous company of mine called Fire Creek Snacks. And even my very first online business, engaged Marriage, which was a six figure business that used really the exact same playbook.
Dustin: And, sitting in the seat that I'm in, I've seen over 250 clients use this exact same system to get similar results. So this will work for you if you have something that you're passionate about teaching. [00:03:00] And you're likely a coach, a consultant, or a service provider. and you enjoy the idea of sharing with others this gift that you have and this thing that you're passionate about, right?
Dustin: If that's, if you have that, that's the recipe. And the plan is two steps. number one. Is podcast guesting and number two is partnerships. Right? And I'm gonna break down, exactly what I mean by that. Because this isn't just any podcast, and it's not just any partnership, right? It's very intentionally selected, strategically designed.
Dustin: Efforts around podcast guesting and partnerships done at a certain frequency and in a certain, application. So, let me just make this real simple. If you can podcast guest once a week and you can form a partnership once a month, you'll have all of the leads that you need to grow ultimately a seven figure business.
Dustin: Okay? so let's talk about the first part of this podcast, guesting once a week. [00:04:00] Depending on your experience, that may sound like a lot or it may sound like not very much. Right? when it comes to podcast guesting, again in the seat that I'm in, known as the quote unquote podcast guesting guy, I really hear people in two buckets primarily, right?
Dustin: So bucket one, when, Podcast casting comes up as a topic is they say, oh yeah, I've done a little of that. Like, I stumbled into this appearance, or my friend recommended me, or, I met this person at a conference and I got on their show, and it was awesome. Like, I got to tell stories and teach. I got a client from it.
Dustin: I made like $5,000. Like, it's really cool, right? But I, I don't know how to do that consistently. So the idea of doing that every week. It's sort of bewildering. 'cause they don't have like a system for how to do it. Well the other bucket though is people that podcast guests much more frequently than me, I hear people that say, oh, I podcast guested, a hundred episodes this year.
Dustin: I'm like, oh wow. That's a lot. Right? Um, like How did you like that? Or, you know, what did that do for your business? Which is the [00:05:00] key question. And a lot of times the response is sort of a deer in headlights, like, I actually don't know, or really not much, right? so it's not that the act of being on a podcast once a week is gonna drive those results.
Dustin: The key is you have to be on the right podcast with the right stories and the right call to action. And very importantly, you need the right system to leverage each of those appearances to actually make money for your business. Right? So. I have an entire episode on our five P framework. I would invite you to listen to that.
Dustin: also the interview that I did with Nathan Barry goes much more deeper into the five P framework and sort of like how to do podcast guesting the right way. So I'm not gonna go, through all of that on today's episode, but I want to encourage you is if you. Are on one podcast a week and you meet those criteria, the right podcast, right story, right call to action, and you have a system to take that energy and that effort and that momentum and use it to, sell those three offers I talked [00:06:00] about in the previous episode.
Dustin: That is the foundation for marketing for an expert based business. Or it can be, and, uh, in, in my not so humble opinion, it really should be. I think this is, the key to marketing. Well, especially in an age of AI and kind of AI slop and all the noise on social media. Like you don't need all that complication, right?
Dustin: You can literally show up, teach. Coach love on people the way that you like to do. tell your story, tell stories, around the things that you're passionate about, and if you have the other parts of the recipe in place that will generate the leads and the sales that you need to. Generate the results you're looking for in your business.
Dustin: So again, a whole episode on that, multiple episodes on that. That's really, that's really the key, framework that we teach, is this five P framework on how to generate at least a hundred thousand dollars a year in your business using podcast guesting alone. Right? So that's part [00:07:00] one. And so we will, kind of set that over here.
Dustin: And I wanna talk about, in more depth part two of this equation, which I haven't talked about much. On this podcast yet, although it is a key part of what we do in our podcast Profits Accelerator program, and that's this idea of partnerships. So. big picture here in business. I feel that if you want to build a
sustainable business based on your expertise, the way to do that is through high quality relationship building, right?
Dustin: But that's a little nebulous. Like, how do I quote unquote build relationships? How do I build my network? Podcast guesting is. A wonderful vehicle for that, right? it creates a win-win, win relationship with you, the host of the podcast and their audience. And when you do that well, as I already stated, it generates a lot of exposure.
Dustin: Goodwill leads, sales and relationships. So once you've established some of these relationships with hosts, with other guests, with different listeners, now you have the opportunity to go deeper [00:08:00] with the ones that really outperform and form partnerships. And that's what I really wanna talk about now. So what do I mean by partnerships?
Dustin: I do not mean business partnerships, right? I'm not saying that you're gonna like form new business entities or go into, you know, legal, agreements with anyone at all. I'm talking about marketing partnerships, right? So I hope this isn't confusing. Podcast guessing is a marketing partnership, right?
Dustin: It is one partnership model, and the reason it's a partnership is because you're gonna give your expertise to this host audience. The host benefits you benefit, and the audience benefits. And you're gonna have a call to action that's gonna pull the people over into your world. But it's not the only.
Dustin: Partnership model. So when I'm, the distinction I'm making here is you should be doing podcast guesting on repeat with a really smart system and generate all of the, the revenue and the relationship capital that that will generate. And you should go deeper with individuals, as the signal, makes itself apparent that there's [00:09:00] more depth to be had.
Dustin: So. A partnership in this sense, means you're gonna serve their audience, and or the host themselves at a deeper level, you're gonna form a deeper partnership beyond the podcast guesting appearance itself. So some forms of partnership that I've used and that I've seen lots of clients use are things like guest training where you.
Dustin: Go, you know, do training for their audience, for their community, for their group coaching program, for their mastermind. that would be one form of this. Another would be like an email list swap. So they promote you to their email list. So beyond the podcast, they're actually saying like, Hey, this person's an expert.
Dustin: Here's their lead magnet. I really believe in it. You should go access it. And now they're on your email list and, and they've identified themselves as a potential ideal client. Another form of this would be, speaking and stages, right? This could be a physical stage, could be a virtual stage, something like a summit [00:10:00] or a guest expert panel.
Dustin: Those would all be forms of partnership. And so each of those examples that I just gave, it's you going onto their stage, right? So again, podcast guessing is also that, but the deeper version would be. The guest training webinar workshops for their audience, kind of on their turf, right? going on their stage, the conference that they're a part of, being featured in their email list, or their LinkedIn, or their YouTube or their Instagram channel, right?
Dustin: These are all just deeper ways that you're serving their audience in a, broader way. So you get more exposure, it's a deeper relationship. You get much more time and, intention and attention with that group. The other side of this are things that you host and the partner promotes. So if you host a workshop, a training, a webinar, you host an expert panel, maybe you're having a conference, you have an email list, like all these things that, that are on [00:11:00] your turf and you have these partners promote it.
Dustin: A joint venture partner, an affiliate partner, that also qualifies as a partnership, right? And so again, to step back to the basics here, if you can be on one high quality podcast that's intentionally selected and, and you're doing your a good job on it. Per week. And you can be on, you can form one of these marketing partnerships per month.
Dustin: That is enough to generate a seven figure business when you do it the right way. So in my business, the way this looks, I actually do less than one a week at this point. I'm. Probably average about two a month as far as podcast guesting opportunities that I, that I seek and participate in.
Dustin: Right? We've gotten really good at this. We're really efficient. We know in advance which ones we want to be on, and we're, we're more selective in effect. Right. I probably do more frequently than that partnerships. So I get asked pretty frequently and I pursue frequently guest trainings. So one of the [00:12:00] top, revenue generators in our business, last year was me being a guest expert in other people's audiences and other people's communities.
Dustin: So you may have heard in interviews I've done on this episode. How I went and served, Nathan Berry's audience, or I was, a guest expert in Justin Welsh's unsubscribed community. I was, I think, three or four different times in
the SPI community with Pat Flynn. I, I frequently do what's working now sessions with digital marketer.
Dustin: I've done, virtual roundtables and I've spoken from the stage at StoryBrand. So those are all examples of partnerships that I formed. All of those examples. Originated with podcast guesting. So that's, the through line here is if you're frequently doing podcast guesting with the right host in front of the right audiences, that generates its own return.
Dustin: In my experience, at least six figures a year. If you do that right, and then when you're like, oh, this one, this podcast, I'm getting a lot more email opt-ins, [00:13:00] or I'm hearing a lot more positive feedback. It's just, you
know, I have a really. A great relationship and rapport with this host, that's your signal to pursue a partnership.
Dustin: Right. So if I'm on, just to use one specific example, I was on Pat Flynn's podcast on smart passive income, SPI. It went really well and I felt a great resonance there and I knew I had aligned values with Pat and his audience. So my first. Intention was like, I really want to be a guest on his show. And so we used our playbook and we ran our framework and we did that and it got its own results.
Dustin: And we got clients from that, built our email list. It was fantastic. But I didn't stop there. And I think this is, one of the key things I wanna emphasize. I knew that I could serve deeper. It would be a bigger benefit to their audience. And there was a lot more, to be gained for seven figure leap, right?
Dustin: So I went to Pat's, team and I said, Hey, that podcast went really well. are there other ways that I can serve? and the response [00:14:00] back was, yes. now that I've proven myself, they see the topic, they're like, this would be really great for our mastermind. So I came in and did a dedicated workshop for Pat's Mastermind, and then, someone else on the team said, you know what?
Dustin: This would be great. For a, a different, group coaching program that we have. So I did a, a guest training there, and then they actually invited me in, for a q and a session for their power up podcasting, cohort based course. So I actually had three different opportunities to do guest training all within the same 30 day window.
Dustin: And then I said, wow, like this is going really well. There's a lot of resonance here. And I asked Pat if he would be on my show. So hopefully you've heard that episode. If not, go check it out. and I had Pat come to my
audience and teach. So this is now a two-way partnership, where I'm. Providing exposure to Pat.
Dustin: Pat obviously provided deep exposure to me, for me to his audience. you know, ultimately what happened there was we ended up at the same conference where he was speaking about the same time as, what became a New York Times bestselling [00:15:00] book. While I was there, lean Learning came out. I got invited to a private dinner with Pat, and at this dinner were a bunch of the speakers from the event, right?
Dustin: So this is a, a very deep partnership that really blossomed over the course of about 60 days from just podcast guesting into three guest trainings. Having Pat on my podcast being invited to a private dinner. From that dinner, I've formed a lot of other great relationships and, and had several clients, so that's an example, but that's what I want to emphasize is.
Dustin: That's a partnership, right? It doesn't have to be that deep. partnerships can be a one-off, Hey, come in and do a workshop for our audience, or let's co host a webinar. Or let's, let's co-host a, a summit or a group, group, expert panel, that sort of thing too. And so I wanna again, step back here as we close out and talk about frequency.
Dustin: 'cause I think this is really important. again, I don't even do one podcast a week. I like to over index here. 'cause here's the thing, if you do just one podcast ever, right? You will grow your email list, you'll build a relationship with that [00:16:00] host. You now have a, guest list that you can access of the other experts and, and people that have been on that show.
Dustin: You have content you can repurpose, like it will build your authority, and it'll definitely be better than zero, right? You're gonna get a net. Impact on your business. That's very positive. And if you do it two times, it'll be better. And if you do it three times, it'll be better. it's kinda linear though, right?
Dustin: It's like three times is probably about three times as effective as one time. The key though, if you're doing this repeatedly, and that's where I really like the cadence of once a week, now you've got like 50 podcast guesting appearances in a year. So now you have 50 email lists, right? That you're, or.
Dustin: Audiences hearing you that will grow your email list. You have 50 opportunities for sales, both immediate and evergreen. You have 50 hosts that you've developed a relationship with. You have 50 guest lists that you can
leverage. You have 50 sources of new content. So that is gonna generate a ton of authority.
Dustin: And so if you only did Part A, which is podcast guest, once a week on the [00:17:00] right shows with the right stories, with the right call to action. That's why we say that's a six figure marketing flywheel. 'cause that alone. Will generate exceptional results. But if you look at that pool that you've created of relationships, again, hosts, guests, the audience that, now has familiarity with you and you say, who within this pool of new relationships could I serve even deeper?
Dustin: And then you pull them out and you do 10 to 12 partnerships and serve them in a deeper way. Those are really like the things that make exponential growth. So you have the linear steady Eddie. I can show up, do my podcast guesting. You know, if you work with us, you're gonna have a system to do that very consistently, and you're gonna have complete clarity on how to do it well.
Dustin: and then the part that people, I think leave tons and tons of opportunity on the table for is go deeper with the ones that weren't going deeper. With the ones where there's this signal that says like, there's a lot more I could be doing with this particular audience, with this particular, host.[00:18:00]
Dustin: Those will create, you know, really exponential results for your business. So you don't have to start with this frequency, but I think if you, if you have a goal of, yeah, if I could be on one podcast a week this year. And I can identify from that. So we're not having to go out and do all this. These, these are, these are interconnected strategies, but from that pool that I create, if I can look in there and say, oh, there's a big fish.
Dustin: There's a big fish, there's one that just feels right, and I have a conversation with them, and we go deeper and we create a more robust marketing partnership. That's a powerful one, two combination. And there's also a flywheel effect here in that one feeds the other, right? So by me being in Justin Welsh's unsubscribed community, I got more podcast casting opportunities from others.
Dustin: I was also able to invite Justin onto this show and I got clients from it, right? So this is a very virtuous cycle that gets created. So if this is something that resonates with you. This is what we do. This is like exactly what we [00:19:00] do in the Podcast Profits accelerator. we work with you to work through our five P framework, purpose, plan, pitch, perform, profit, and we
create a system with you that is tuned in to you, your message, your expertise, your target market, and we help you dial in that message.
Dustin: Find the right podcast that will be ideal fits, get you on those podcasts, show you how to show up and be an amazing guest with a strong call to action. And then. All the ways that we can leverage that, including these really formidable and just expansive and impactful partnerships. Like that's what we do.
Dustin: So if this is something that, is resonating with you and you're like, man, I like this really simple approach to marketing, and if I could build a six figure, multiple six figure seven, and of course multiple seven figures, ultimately using
something so simple as. Teaching people, and then having a system to capture that attention and turn it into high quality leads and sales for my business.
Dustin: If that sounds like something that would be a great fit for you, come talk to us about it. 'cause this is what we do. So the way we start [00:20:00] every engagement is with, no obligation consulting call. Basically, you hop on a call, with our team. We learn about your goals. We learn about your target market.
Dustin: We hear about your offers. We give you some immediate advice on ways that you could optimize that, and then we lay out a plan. If it's appropriate for how podcast guesting and partnerships could be, your ticket to, to the goals that you wanna achieve. And if you agree and we think you're a good fit for the work that we do, then we would invite you into the podcast Profits accelerator, which is our.
Dustin: Core or our deep offer. If you, if you reference the other episode I did recently on the three core offers that you need to, grow a seven figure business. So that's what we do. You go to seven figure leap.com/call and we can have a conversation with you and see if this would be a good fit for you. I hope that you found this.
Dustin: Insightful and maybe calming and, reassuring that you don't need to be, some kind of expert marketer to grow a really effective and impactful business. You just need to stay [00:21:00] in your zone of genius, live within your unique
ability, and have a very smart, simple system that takes, that, amplifies it, and creates the results that you're looking for in your business.
Dustin: So. I love this stuff. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out and let me know if I can go deeper on any part of this. but one podcast a week,
one partnership a month is your ticket to success and, we'd love to help you with it. if you agree, come over to seven figure leap.com/call and we'll see you then.
